The changes to MotoGP for 2012 are getting into full swing. After the first mixed test of old-style factory prototypes and CRT machines at Valencia, more projects for 2012 are starting to break cover.
The latest project to emerge is the San Carlo Gresini Honda team's CBR-powered project. While Alvaro Bautista is to pilot the prototype Honda RC213V machine originally destined for Marco Simoncelli, Gresini did not have the budget to run a second factory prototype, and so the team elected to run the second bike as a CRT entry. Today, Gresini announced that the bike is to be built by FTR, and will be powered by a Honda CBR1000RR engine. The rider is yet to be announced, though with the Spaniard Bautista signed to the RC213V machine, the chances are high that it will be an Italian, to keep Gresini's sponsor San Carlo happy. Michele Pirro, currrently racing for Gresini in Moto2, is the current favorite candidate, though his teammate Yuki Takahashi has also been linked to the ride.

With so much hubbub surrounding the UFC this weekend, it was easy to forget that Junior dos Santos wasn't the only man to score a big knockout. At Bellator 57, Douglas Lima won the welterweight tournament with a second-round knockout of Ben Saunders.
With that right hand, Lima won the Bellator welterweight tournament and the right to challenge Ben Askren for the Bellator championship.
In Russia, Aleksander Emelianenko (brother of Fedor) took longer to walk out to the ring than he did to fight. Skip to 2:20 to watch how quickly Magomed Malikov finished Emelianenko off.
Yep, that took a total of 23 seconds. It was Emelianenko's second loss in a row.

In the preliminary fights at UFC on Fox in Anaheim, Ricardo Lamas scored an emotional win, DaMarques Johnson notched a quick KO and Darren Uyenoyama dominated his way to a decision.
Johnson gets KO of the Night nominee
Damarques Johnson made quick work of fellow "Ultimate Fighter" alumnus Clay Harvison, knocking him out in the first round. Johnson landed a left hook, took a second to celebrate, then threw another punch to finish the bout at 1:34. That moves Johnson's record to 13-9, with 4-3 in the UFC, while is now 9-4. He is 1-2 in the UFC, losing his last two bouts.
"It feels great to get the win because I know that's what I'm capable of. I just wanted to go out there and show a more polished version of myself and I think I did that tonight. I was prepared to let the fight go wherever he wanted to take it. I planned on giving him a false sense of security and self confidence so that I could capitalize on his mistakes if he over-committed," Johnson said.
Lamas wins with an arm triangle
Though Cub Swanson was touted as the better grappler, Ricard Lamas took their bout with an arm triangle. Lamas started out the first round with a takedown, but left his neck open for a guillotine, one of Swanson's favorite moves. Lamas tried to slam Swanson, and then stood up to finally shake him off. Swanson was aggressive in stand-up, landing big kicks and strikes.
In the third, Lamas got a takedown that led to ground and pound, then switched to a perfectly executed arm triangle. Swanson appeared to be comfortable at first, but Swanson couldn't defend. He was forced to tap at 2:16 of the second round.
Afterwards, Lamas broke down in tears and dedicated the fight to his grandmother, who passed away a week ago. Lamas is 11-2 after the win, and Swanson, who had a long layoff due to a stretch of injuries, is now 15-5.
Uyenoyama takes out "The Kid"
Darren Uyenoyama's superior grappling and conditioning led to decision win. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-26, 30-27.
Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto started strong with a takedown, but Uyenoyama defended well and was able to get back up. Uyenoyama knocked Yamamoto down and then controlled him on the ground. He slapped on a rear naked choke and sunk it deep, but it was late in the round. Yamamoto looked like he was going to tap, but the horn sounded to end the round. Yamamoto stood up quickly, clarifying that he did not tap.
In the second round, Yamamoto caught Uyenoyama with a clean strike and cut his face. Uyenoyama survived and got the edge in grappling. He mounted Yamamoto's back, using a body triangle to control the fight.
The third round featured more excellent grappling from Uyenoyama. He controlled Yamamoto for most of the round on the ground. When they were on their feet, he showed excellent takedown defense.
"I was walking to the Octagon and I still couldn't believe I was about to compete in the UFC. I didn't have an easy road to get here and I had the honor of fighting a legend and a personal hero of mine. I hope that the fight wasn't boring because I tried to make it exciting for the fans. I had trouble with a cut during training and 'Kid' was able to open it up again in there. He hit me with some hard shots and I'm happy I was able to take them because I think that he is one of the hardest punchers in the division," Uyenoyoma said after the bout.

With a fight falling on Halloween weekend, my Twitter feed was not as full was it's been in Halloweens past with images of fighters dressing up for the day. Still, a few people in the MMA world celebrated.
Dan Hardy took advantage of the occasion to take a casual walk to the mailbox.
Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate's Wonder Woman costume involved a belt that is way cooler than any bracelet -- even bracelets that can stop bullets.
Brian Stann put on a scary face to take his adorable daughters trick-or-treating.
Anthony Pettis shared an amazing pumpkin carving that a fan sent him. Carving Pettis' signature "Showtime kick" takes a level of skill and patience that blows my mind.
UFC Octagon Girl Arianny Celeste dressed as Ursula from "The Little Mermaid."
Finally, Chuck Liddell took his daughter trick-or-treating. This picture originally had a terrifying clown in it, but I had to crop it out. I love my readers too much to ever share such a nightmare-inducing image.

Whoops! The UFC's usually airtight security let a fan slip by and make it all the way into the Octagon in England on Saturday night. Not long after Chris Leben entered the cage and before Bruce Buffer started the introductions for the main event, a man traipsed through the Octagon.
The referees quickly escorted him out of the cage, and Dana White tweeted, "Fan just jumped the barrier and ran into the octagon! That's a first in 10 years!!!!! The Brits lol."
It's mind-boggling that a fan got anywhere near the Octagon without being tackled first. UFC events aren't set up like baseball or football games, with tons of wide-open space and just a wall between fans and the field of play. At each fight, the UFC creates a secure perimeter around the Octagon, and only credentialed media, staff, fight officials and coaches can make it anywhere near the cage. Movement is particularly restricted when a fighter is walking in or out from his bout. They are even more strict about who can get into the Octagon.
Leben, Munoz, and everyone in the cage should thank their lucky stars that this fan was just a thrill-seeker, andnot a crazy person with bad intentions.

As big as we all think mixed martial arts is, it still has a long way to go in the U.S. and around the world. For a reality check, watch Chris Leben explain what he does and the growth of MMA to a pair of blokes in Birmingham.
The one local said he lived in Dallas in the past and gets how big the sport is in the U.S. The other dude seems completely disinterested.
The Brits explain that the idea that locals would hang out at bars on fight night to watch the UFC, doesn't work in the U.K. (4:17 mark).
I'm really curious to see how the insane guy at the end of the video did with his weight cut bet. Any normal person who tries to duel a fighter in cutting weight is insane.

In the UFC's first trip back to England in a year, a veteran got his first win, two "The Ultimate Fighter" alums didn't fare as well, and one fighter had a knockout in less than a minute. Read on for results from the fights that aired on Facebook.
Justin Edwards and John Maguire gave the fans in Birmingham an early candidate for the Fight of the Night. Maguire took the decision 30-27 by surviving Edwards' kicks whiekle also working submission attempts.
The first round showed both Edwards and Maguire in control at times. Edwards looked in position to finish early, but Maguire survived and showed great grappling to finish out the round. In the second round, Maguire came close to winning by rear naked choke and an armbar as the round ended. Edwards returned to his high kicks in the final round, but Maguire again made it through for the win, 30-27 on every card.
If you were looking for a heavyweight bout that was a preview to next week's (likely) exciting heavyweight title bout, this was not the fight. It was a clinic in how to use ground and pound to defend against grappling. Broughton used a Kimura to get on top in the second round, and then kept De Fries from securing an armbar by landing plenty of elbows in the second round. Broughton won 29-28 on all three cards.
Despite an impressive career in Japan, Michihiro Omigawa was still trying for his first UFC win against Jason Young. He finally got that win, using his judo to come away with the decision, 29-28 on all three judges cards.
"I was concerned about his striking but I stayed calmed and fought very well. I just tried to avoid as many shots as possible. I was always confident about my ability to take him down with my judo and in the end this prevailed," Omigawa said after the win.
Che Mills didn't take much time to come up with the win over "The Ultimate Fighter" alumnus Chris Cope. He used a knee to knock him out in just 40 seconds.
British-born Vaughan Lee started out strong in the first fight of the night, but Carisao came back for the win. Lee dominated with grappling in the first, but Cariaso came roaring back in the second with much better striking. Cariaso's ground skills showed up in the third round as he took full mount, and pounded out Lee for most of the round. He won the decision 29-28, 28-29, 29-28. Carisao's second and third rounds were obviously dominant, so the split decision came as a surprise.

Another trip to England meant another gaffe at the scale for welterweight fighter Thiago Alves. At the weigh-ins for UFC 138, Alves weighed in at 172 on the first try, one pound over the welterweight limit for a non-title fight. He needed an extra hour to drop the last pound.
Alves also missed weight for his UFC 85 win over Matt Hughes and his UFC 117 fight Jon Fitch. After the loss to Fitch, Alves began work with noted MMA nutritionist Mike Dolce, and had no problems at the scale for bouts at UFC 124 and UFC 130. This weekend's bout with Pappy Abedi seemed to be a chance for Alves to correct his course after losing to Rick Story in May, but not making weight on the first try is not a great way to impress for Alves to impress his bosses.
Even with Dolce's help, Alves is still a muscle-bound fighter who only can drop so much fat and water weight before a bout. He is also not getting any younger, and fighters generally have a tougher time cutting weight as they age. Anthony Johnson struggled to make welterweight for years, and has finally made the decision to move up to middleweight to face Vitor Belfort. Should Alves do the same? Tell us your thoughts in the comments, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
